A Leaf in Autumn’s Memory

We all go through seasons in our lives.  Some are gentle like the coolness of a Springtime afternoon shower.  Others grip us like Old Man Winter when Mother Nature pisses him off and he sends icy Arctic winds ripping through one's very soul.  "A Leaf in Autumn's Memory" hints at the end of Summer and the steady approach of old age as a season of love ends and a leaf begs its tree to remember how it faithfully adorned the tree in the beauty of love.

A Leaf in Autumn’s Memory

Think hard...is it Autumn? As the seasons change, so does life.  Spring and Summer (nights) have passed. Is Autumn truly upon us? I feel the nights getting longer as the colours slowly change.  While still beautiful, the impending starkness of Winter draws nearer daily. The solitude of stolen moments flicker as all that holds the leaf to the branch also begins to release its grip.  With waning earnest the leaf lets loose and falls victim to time and gravity.  Sadly, it floats - carried sometimes by a gentle scent or breeze.  Ultimately Autumn’s grip forces the tree to shed its adornments and the tree braces for the onslaught of Winter...through which only the hope of Spring shows promise.

Is it only in song and memory that we live?  An echo carried across the canyon of time.  It is by grace though, that two hearts share a familiar beat and that companionship would root eternally deep.  I am that leaf.  My colour is fading and my hold on the branch weakens daily.  Winter is coming.  The only hope is the promise of Spring and a new life for the tree.  You are the tree.  Weather Winter.  Put on a new adornment of leaves...keep this one, as the seasons change.
